The Matoula Beach Hotel is a great springboard for exploring Ialyssos. It’s on the outskirts of the village, just a few minutes’ walk from the beach, and it comes with a lovely pool area, plus a bar-come-restaurant.

From the outside, this place looks typically Greek, with whitewashed walls and terracotta rooftops. Inside, things are modern and, although some rooms still feature exposed wood rafters, they’re finished with contemporary fabrics.

The swimming pool at this hotel is surrounded by greenery. It’s got a section for children, and a neighbouring bar that serves daytime drinks and snacks. The bar doubles up as a Mediterranean à la carte eatery in the evening, and there’s a buffet restaurant here, too. Elsewhere, you’ve got a pool table and a playground.
