We kick things off in Los Angeles with a sightseeing tour taking in the TCL Chinese Theatre, and there’s an optional behind-the-scenes look at Warner Bros Studios for film fans. Santa Monica’s famous 100-year- old pier and the Spanish-influenced charm of San Diego follow, before we cross into Arizona, winding through saguaro cactus desert to the former Wild West town of Prescott. Then comes the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon: 14 miles wide, carved over millions of years, and possibly best appreciated from the air on an optional helicopter flight. Route 66 carries us west to the extraordinary neon spectacle of Las Vegas, where the dancing fountains of the Bellagio and gondolas at the Venetian provide just a taste of what the Strip has in store. Back into California, the ancient sequoias and cascading waterfalls of Yosemite take the breath away, before a final crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge brings us to San Francisco for two glorious nights, with Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, the cable cars and an optional Alcatraz cruise all on the agenda.
